Elizabeth Loring is a singer, songwriter, and acoustic bass player who performs in the Chicago area with local bluegrass heavy-hitters like Ben Benedict, Andy Miller, and Pete Smith. She has been singing as long as she can remember, but didn’t start playing bluegrass until the 1990s, eventually recording an album with Highway 52, a Southern California band whose members also included guitarist Chris Stuart and and frequent MBC banjo instructor Janet Beazley. An experienced teacher, Elizabeth has led workshops at bluegrass and folk events, taught private lessons in bluegrass singing, and written articles revealing the secrets of bluegrass jamming. She feels that almost anyone can learn to sing enough to have fun with it; and that a few helpful suggestions can unlock the door to some very rewarding jamming experiences.
