Joel Mabus was raised in Southern Illinois in a family of old-time musicians. His parents played traveling road shows for Prairie Farmer & WLS Barn Dance in the late 1930s. Joel began playing banjo, mandolin & guitar at the age of 9 in 1962 and has been teaching banjo since 1974. He has taught at U-Mass Summer Acoustic Music Week, Puget Sound Guitar Workshop, California Coast Music Camp, Augusta Heritage in Elkins, WV, & Summersongs at Ashokan, NY. He has played fiddle & banjo for thousands of square dances. With 27 albums over a long professional career as singer and songwriter, his latest is Time & Truth from 2019. Joel makes his home in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.
